March 5th-March 7th

We hope your family has a relaxing Spring Break! God’s Blessings for everyone’s safe return.

Religion –We continue to work through presenting our Google Slide Presentations on the 7 Sacraments. We are also continuing to work through our unit on the Works of Mercy. Students will be responsible for knowing all of the Works of Mercy as well as how a 5th grader can serve others following the Works of Mercy. The next Lenten Prayer service will be on Monday at 9:10 in the church. Mrs. Schaffer’s class will be leading the all school mass on Wednesday, March 7. Students in her class may wear “dress up” clothes (think what one may wear on picture day).

Reading/Language Arts – We are finishing up our MLK unit/informative writing pieces. We will move back into our routine of independently reading, conferencing, and journal writing about current reading selections after MLK. Following Spring Break, we will take some time to read in Literature Circles.

Math – We spent time working on improper fractions, mixed numbers, and parts/whole. Next week, we will continue to spend time converting fractions to decimals and percents.

Social Studies - Students have finished presenting their timelines. They are all hanging in the 5th grade hallway if you are in the building, please stop by to take a look!  Mr. Leo Landis, Curator for the Iowa Historical Museum visited with 5th grade about the awesome artifacts we will see Monday on our field trip. We are all very excited for this trip!  We will continue discussion about our amazing State and begin our Iowa History Projects following Spring Break.

Language Arts – We spent time this week working with regular and irregular verbs. Next week we will look at perfect verb tenses and verb tense consistency. We will continue with our Informative Writing unit next week as well. We chose our topics this week and spent a class period in the library with Mrs. LeWarne learning how to find appropriate resources to support our topics. We’ll learn how to take notes, how to look through information, how to cite sources etc. next week.

Spelling – We will not have a Spelling list next week due to only a three day week.
