Religion –We have finished our Google Slide Presentations on the 7 Sacraments. Students will be presenting these to the class over the next several weeks. We encourage you to take a moment and view these presentations at home. We have started our unit on the Works of Mercy. Students will be responsible for knowing all of the Works of Mercy as well as how a 5th grader can serve others following the Works of Mercy. 5th grade will be leading the Lenten Prayer service on Monday at 9:10 in the church. The theme will be Path to Sacrifice.

Reading/Language Arts – We are continuing to work through our MLK unit/informative writing pieces. We will move back into our routine of independently reading, conferencing, and journal writing about current reading selections after MLK. Following Spring Break, we will take some time to read in Literature Circles.

Math – We spent time working on improper fractions, mixed numbers, and parts/whole. Next week, we will spend time converting fractions to decimals and percents.

Social Studies - Students have continued work on their timelines. They look amazing! Students will be presenting their timelines to the class and receive a grade on presentation. We will begin our unit on Iowa History next week with a visit from Leo Landis, Curator for the Historical Museum on March 1st. He will talk to our students and we will visit the museum and vault on March 5th. Please look for the permission slip that came home today.

Language Arts – We spent time working on verb tenses this week. Next week we will look at irregular verbs and verb tense consistency. We will continue with our Informative Writing unit next week as well. We have spent some time researching topics we’re curious about and want to learn more about. Next week, we’ll narrow down our topic choices and ensure that there is plenty of information on our topic-then dig into the actual research. We’ll learn how to take notes, how to look through information, how to cite sources etc.

Spelling – Our Spelling list next week will consist of words that are homographs. Your child will need to know how to spell the words as well their multiple meanings and how to determine the correct meaning in context.
