Religion – Students will be assessed in May on the Hail Holy Queen and The Apostles’ Creed next week.  Please continue to add these to your daily prayers at home.  We have started and will end the year learning about Mary and the Rosary. We will also be participating in praying one decade of the rosary each week in the month of May with the K-4th graders.  The next decade will be prayed on Monday May 22 at 8:45 in the church.  Please feel free to attend.

Reading/Language Arts –  We continue to complete mini lessons/activities for the comprehension strategies.  Mrs. Schaffer’s class will continue to work with the Special Needs Lit Circle Unit.  Students just finished reading a novel based on a character with a special need and have started researching a special need in groups.   The groups will present their findings to the class. Mrs. Anderson’s class will continue the whole class book Bridge to Terabithia.  Mrs. Alsin’s class will begin end-of-the-year student conferences for the 40 book reading program.  

Math –  We continue with Unit 9 next week.  This unit covers coordinates, area, volume, and capacity.  Bring on applying formulas like the good ‘ole days! :)     

Science -Tests from our living things unit will come home this weekend, please sign and return.  We will finish the year talking about Space and learning more about how the Sun plays such an important role in all living things.

Language Arts – We continued to work on Persuasive Writing this week.  We looked at the pros and cons of chocolate milk.  We used our own schema to determine the pros and cons as well as articles, research, and news videos.  Based on our research, we were able to develop thesis statements about each topic.  We also held a classroom debate!  We will turn all of this work into a persuasive writing piece.  We will also continue working on Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections next week.

Religion – We’ve continued and wrapped up our unit on Morality this week.  We used the Cardinal Virtues to guide this discussion.  We will be finishing the year discussing the importance of Mary in our church as well as the mysteries of the Rosary.  Students will be assessed in May on the Hail Holy Queen and The Apostles’ Creed.  Please continue to add these to your daily prayers at home.  We will be participating in praying one decade of the rosary each week in the month of May with the K-4th graders.  The next decade will be prayed on Monday May 15 at 8:45 in the church.  Please feel free to attend.

Science -We have been learning a great deal about how living things are categorized.  We broke each of those 5 kingdoms down even further and are learning specific characteristics for them.  We will review Monday and test over this information on Tuesday.

Language Arts – We continued to work on Persuasive Writing this week.  We looked at the pros and cons of fast food, juice, and chocolate milk.  We used our own schema to determine the pros and cons as well as articles and news videos.  Based on our research, we were able to develop thesis statements about each topic.  We also held a classroom debate!  We will continue with persuasion techniques and writing next week.  We will also begin working on Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections next week.  

Spelling –  Our next Spelling list includes words that contain the Greek and Latin Roots biblio-, graph-, grad-, gress-.

Religion – We started a unit on Morality this week.  We are using the Cardinal Virtues to guide this discussion.  Next week, the students will create and present skits illustrating the 4 Cardinal Virtues. We will be finishing the year discussing the importance of Mary in our church as well as the mysteries of the Rosary.  Students will be assessed in May on the Hail Holy Queen and The Apostles’ Creed.  Please continue to add these to your daily prayers at home.  We will be participating in praying one decade of the rosary each week in the month of May with the K-4th graders.  The next decade will be prayed on Monday May 8 in the church.  Please feel free to attend.

Mrs. Anderson’s class is finishing with Lit Circles and will read the whole class book Bridge to Terabithia next.  Mrs. Alsin’s Class is finishing with the whole class book Bridge to Terabithia.

Math –  We are working on coordinates in class.  Your child was challenged last week with creating a figure using all four quadrants.  The reveal was an angry bird.          

Science -We started exploring the 5 Kingdoms of living things this week and will continue this unit next week as well.  Students learned a bit about Cinco de Mayo today and created some fun things.  Ask them!  

Language Arts – We finished up our Adjective unit with the final assessment today.  We will begin working on Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections next week.  We will also continue with our Persuasive Writing Unit.
