Our Last Day Together

Our Last Day

We ended our last day with a very special Mass and said good-bye to some very special teachers and students.  We will miss the Wallace family as they head to Iowa City to be closer to family and wish them all the best of God's blessings.

Culver's Anyone?

Culver's Lunch

We are so proud of this group of kids.  They were very well behaved, patient, and generous as 83 of them waited in line to be served at Culvers.  Before we left for lunch Mr.s Hade was being taped to the wall by a few of our students.  I didn't get pics of all, sorry but it sure was fun to watch!

5th Grade Band

 Fabulous 5th Grade Band

Mr. Purviance invited all 4th and 5th grade to listen to all the amazing things our 5th Grade Band members learned this year, and drum up some new members for next year.   We are very proud of their wonderful talent.  Mr. Purviance also shared that this is one of his fastest learning groups.  Way to GO!

STEAM DAY WAS A SUCCESS!  The students learned about the different levels of the ocean floor, researched a creature from a particular level, and then created it with a variety of art supplies!  Check out the bulletin board in the 4th/5th grade hallway! It looks beautiful! Students in science made a lung out of the liter bottles you so graciously provided and learned the specifics on how our lungs work. In Math, we learned the difference between salt water and fresh water density. We also learned about buoyancy and density through an experiment the students completed using packets of ketchup and the 1 liter bottle they brought from home. Thank you so much for supporting our material needs! :)

Religion –  Our acrostic Mary poems and illustrations are complete and in the hallway.  If you are in the building, please take some time to walk through our hallway.  They turned out beautifully. We also spent time reading about Mary in Scripture Next week we will learn more about the Rosary.

Reading/Language Arts –  Mrs Anderson’s class 40 Books are due on May 18th and will begin getting their reading binders in order to hand in next week.  Mrs. Alsin’s class will continue to share their “special needs” lit circle research projects. May 7th-May 11th

Religion – We began our unit on Mary this week. We created an ABC chart of everything we already knew about Mary and continued to add to as we learned more about her. We then used these ABC charts to write an Acrostic Poem about Mary. We will add an illustration of Mary and hang these in the hallway to honor her throughout the month of May. We will spend reading about Mary in Scripture and also take some time to learn more about the Rosary.

Reading/Language Arts – Please take time to look over the packet from Mrs. Anderson’s class over the whole class book, Bridge to Terabithia, this needs to be signed by a parent and returned. Mrs. Alsin’s class will continue to share their “special needs” lit circle research projects. Mrs. Schaffer’s class finished the second round of Lit Circles and started the whole class book study using Bridge to Terabithia.

Math – We will be working on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. Please look for real-world opportunities to explore with your child at home.

We will continue with Daily Oral Geography skills so please encourage your child to continue to study their D.O.G. packet.

Language Arts – We spent time learning about conjunctions and prepositions, and interjections this week. The test over these 3 parts of speech will be on Tuesday May 8th. We also began our poetry/figurative language unit. Congratulations to Noah Gaul and Kate Carlson for winning 2nd and 3rd place in the Iowa Poetry Association Contest.
